coaching hypnosis nlp May 24, 2016

The following is a transcript of a client session where we use the B-E-A-T Coaching system for change. This is taken from our book "The BEAT Coaching System" by Sarah Carson and Shawn Carson.

Coach: what would you like to work through today?

Client: I have to give a presentation next week and I would like to feel a lot more confident about it.

Coach: great, where is the presentation?

Client: it’s in the office, I'll be giving it in the boardroom.

Coach: great, and what you want to achieve in the presentation?

Client: I want to convince them to go ahead with my project.

Coach: and when you get to the end of the presentation, how will you know if you have achieved that? What will you see that will let you know that they are in favor of your project? I know that at some stage they will tell you, but what will you see right there and then that will let you know your presentation has been a success?

Client: I guess I would see them smiling and nodding.

Coach: Okay great. Today we...

5 Hypnosis Urban Legends Hypnotists Believe

hypnosis hypnotherapy May 05, 2016

Even after all these years hypnosis is still shrouded in myth, suspicion, and misinformation in the general public's imaginings.  Sometimes even hypnotists fall into the trap of believing urban legends about hypnosis.  These myths aren't from pop culture however, they are passed around hypnosis circles as if they were truth.  Throughout our training careers we have heard a number of these myths from students and experienced hypnotists alike and we wanted to take a moment to reframe some of the most common myths we have heard.

If you haven't experienced these beliefs then congratualtions for being ahead of the game.  If you have experienced these beliefs then also congratualtions for stepping in a new direction.

coaching hypnosis nlp Apr 08, 2016

The following is a transcript from a live client session in which we use a Visual Squash as a part of the change process.  This is taken from our book- The Visual Squash (NLP Mastery Series) by Jess Marion and Shawn Carson

Coach: What would you like to work through today?

Client: I’m torn between continuing my consulting work and leaving to pursue my writing.

Coach: OK, so it’s like you’re being pulled in two different directions.

 Client: Yes.

Coach: On one hand you want to continue your work and on the other pursue the writing.

Client: Right.

Coach: So, I’m curious: this part of you that wants to continue on with the consulting work, what is it doing for you? What are you getting out of it?

Client: It’s more lucrative, so there’s money involved. Money lets me pay my rent, pay my bills. The work is interesting and I enjoy it and it gives me a sense of security, of knowing I can go back to it full-time if I...

NLP Modeling vs. Deep Trance Identification

NLP modeling techniques and Deep Trance Identification both have the end goal of helping people to step into greater levels of personal excellence by teaching us how to learn from others who are masterful in the areas that we would like to improve.

Modeling and DTI come at this from different ends of the spectrum.  NLP modeling is a deductive process that relies on the modeler to consciously elicit and impliment unconscious information from the model.  DTI on the other hand is an inductive approach that allows both the modeler and model to experience the skill and way of being on the uncsoncious level rather than making it conscious.

An example of this would be the hypnotist who spends hundreds of hours analyzing Milton Erickson's work and creating a conscious explanation for it versus the hypnotist who steps into Erickson's shoes and feels what it is like to do hypnosis as Erickson.

Both approaches compliment each other and are useful in the...

The DTI Pattern You Should Do With Every Client

The Future Self Deep Trance Identification Pattern

This technique is a powerful method for formating your client's unconscious mind for success.  It invites them to dream into who they really want to be even beyond the change they want to acheive with you.  Most importantly it pulls them irresistably through the change process.

Steps

1. Invite the client to create an image of their future self.  This is the version of them who has experienced the change for so long that they barely remember having the issue (or not being this way).  Draw their attention to the future self's breathing, facial expression, gestures and posture.

2. Have the client step out of herself and notice both future self and present sef.  Now have the client step into the future self.

3.  Build up the experience of the future self by eliciting the physiology, map of the world, thoughts, feelings, rules, values, archetype, wisdom, and next...

The GRIT Induction

The Goal Repetition Induction Technique comes from Stephen Gilligan and is a lovely induction to use with friends.  Not only is great for the "hypnotee" but it also allows you to practice your free form trance skills. We teach this induction to all of our NLP Master Practitioner classes.

The Steps:

  • Ask your partner to come up with a goal. Help him or her to state that goal in a single statement that is evocative.  Ex "I am flowing into creativity"

  • Ask him to begin repeating the goal, one word for each breath "I - am - flowing - into - creativity"

  • When he is comfortable begin to weave a trance induction into his goal " I - you - AM - you are - FLOWING - flow in - TO - to one"

Hints:

  1. This is a great induction for you to practice your free-form hypnotic language skills in a controlled environment.  Use tonality and sometimes say nothing.  Other times speak over your partner.

  2. Slow your partner down...

Parts Negotiation and Cravings- A Case Study

hypnosis nlp stop smoking Feb 27, 2016

The following is a case study from a stop smoking session I ran a few weeks ago.  This was not my typical session as the client was very familiar with the coaching process.  He was a deep trance client which always makes for interesting and fun sessions.

As you'll see, the interesting thing about this session was that the bulk of the change work occured as we worked through the cravings.  We went from a typical craving buster into a parts negotiation.  If you are familiar with NLP techniques, you will recognize the negotiation as a 6 Step Reframe.

The 6 Step Reframe as a Craving Buster - A Case Study

I recently had a smoking cessation client come to my office. When he arrived he was visibly nervous, now I ask all my stop smoking clients to smoke their last cigarette the night before our session and this client had complied with my request, however it was clear from his state that not having his regular cigarettes through the day had...
